The deep belly laugh.
The lover’s sleep-warm skin.
The pink gift of morning, broken
open.
I’ve spoken frankly of pain
but what of joy—
Of the light that trembles my bones?
It is there, scattered amidst the soft wreckage of my body.
It is there.
Mahalia Damm is a 3rd-year MDiv student at BU School of Theology studying Global and Community Engagement. She comes to BU from Hope College in Holland, Michigan where she studied Psychology and Spanish. She believes wholeheartedly in the transformative power of plants, poetry, and play.
